Kowiachobee Animal Preserve, a not-for-profit 501 (c)(3) organization Brief Introduction of Organization Kowiachobee Animal Preserve is located in Golden Gate Estates, Florida. We provide wildlife preservation and education for children, youth and families throughout Collier County. Our mission is: respecting all wildlife and conservation by teaching anyone we come in contact with. Kowiachobee was established in 2002 by Grace & John Slaby, experts in caring for big cats and other wildlife. Their love of animals and their passion for teaching others about wildlife preservation lead them to create Kowiachobee (which means: screaming big cat in reference to the Florida Panther). The preserve rests on a five-acre parcel of land and houses over 100 animals that require daily care, medical treatment and environmental improvements to support their needs as they age.
